Cracked, blown or salt-damaged render outside. Water-stained ceilings, crumbling plaster and broken cornices inside. We fix the cause, repair the surface properly and finish it ready for paint.
Photos help us understand the job.
Render protects masonry and gives a building its finish, but once water or salt gets behind it, it cracks, bubbles and lets go. Patching over the top of drummy or salt-loaded render rarely lasts.
We tap-test walls to find drummy areas, remove failed render back to sound edges, find out why it failed, and re-render with a system that suits the wall, whether that's cement, acrylic or salt-resistant render. Then we match the texture and repaint.
When a wall has suffered rising damp, it's full of salts carried up from the ground. Even after the damp is stopped with a new damp-proof course, those salts stay in the masonry. Standard plaster or render applied over them will blister and crumble as the wall dries and salts crystallise.
The correct finish is a salt-resistant render system, designed to hold salts within the render so the surface finish stays sound. It's an essential part of a proper rising damp treatment, not an optional extra.
Because we do damp treatment and rendering in-house, both parts are done in the right order with the right materials.
